The groove stand's magnetism, however, is far stronger than the competition's the iPad will remain in its groove when lifted, which is convenient when you want to reposition the iPad/keyboard cover combo. Unfortunately, the magnetic connection between the cover's hinge and the iPad isn't much stronger than its predecessor, so it still detaches itself pretty easily. Unlike the flimsy, metallic, multi-part first-generation hinge from the original Ultrathin (which was also a pain to connect to your iPad), the new Ultrathin's hinge is made of one piece of plastic that won't scratch the iPad's side, while being much easier to snap on. You'll find the same anodized aluminum outer-shell that is identical to the iPad Air's back, and the solid plastic surrounding the keyboard comes in white or black. At 11.6 ounces, it's slightly heavier, but the added weight isn't that noticeable compared with the 13-ounce Belkin QODE Thin Type. Save for some new exterior rubber bumpers, and a hinge that won't scratch your iPad, the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad Air is pretty much a smaller and thinner replica of its older sibling. Still, despite these flaws, it's still the best case we've tested for the iPad Air so far, and it earns our Editors' Choice recommendation. The keys could have a little more depth, and, being a cover rather than a case, it only protects your iPad's screen.
